I'm John A., the breeder behind Frankenhaus German Shepherds located in New Albany, OH. We have been breeding high-quality German Shepherds since the '70s. Our dogs are bred for health and excellence! We are a passionate and dedicated breeding program that produces dogs with great working drives, conformation, and temperaments. We take great pride in our dogs and our breeding program.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We wanted to do our part to better the breed. We are passionate about preparing our puppies to thrive in their forever homes, as well as mentor their new families so that they can raise their new, furry companions with confidence and joy.
  • What makes your program special?

    We wanted to put our passion for German Shepherds to good use. Breeding healthy, happy puppies is our way to give back to the breed. We want nothing more than to see each of our dogs and puppies shine.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Temperament Test

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
