German Shepherd
About Phoenix
Phoenix is an excellent family dog and has strong nerves and an excellent stop. She strives to be with her family constantly. She protects our property/hobby farm well. Her protective instincts are strong. She loves to hike with our family and will run back and forth from the person to in the front to the person in the back constantly making sure all her humans are safe and accounted for. Phoenix is very in-tune and alert to our emotions and concerns. She has a high ball drive and is extremely smart and trainable. She will work herself into exhaustion, but also can be relaxed and calm very well. She has intense focus, is very athletic, and would excel at sports like agility and fastcat. She is a heavy boned girl at 80 pounds. She has a big masculine head and excellent conformation.
Great health testing
Good level
Freedom Acres Farm reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
