Meet the breeder

I'm Gena P., the breeder behind Froschwald German Shepherds and Xanadu Teddy Roosevelt Terriers located in Murray, KY. We breed for structure, health and temperament, and follow the parent dog club guidelines to provide healthy and sound dogs. Our goal is to bring you versatile, loyal, devoted Shepherds or Teddy's.

Q. & A. with Gena

  • Why did you start breeding?

30 years ago I bred rat terriers but my love for GSDs brought me back to Shepherds. Once retired I bought some acreage, built an indoor kennel and a large ex pen. I was surprised by an oops litter when my female had a silent heat, and even more surprised at the amazing pups my pair had thrown. I knew that with planned breedings the outcome would only get better.
  • What makes your program special?

The love and respect that I have for the GSD. They are my furry kids. A lot of thought, planning, and preparation goes in to each litter. Once whelped I do Early Neurological Stimulation and sound desensitization, socialization and some training. I can't help but cry when they leave, but know they will be going to great homes. Our Teddy Roosevelt Terriers are Embark paneled and have their patella's and cardiac vet checked. Results are submitted to OFA so that each of our breeding dogs receive a CHIC#. he Canine Health Information Center, also known as CHIC, is a centralized canine health database jointly sponsored by the AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF) and the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). CHIC, working with participating parent clubs, provides a resource for breeders and owners of purebred dogs to research and maintain information on the health issues prevalent in specific breeds.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

German Shepherd puppies have stock coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Teddy Roosevelt Terrier puppies include white and chocolate, white and blue fawn, white and blue, white and lemon, white and sable, white and silver, white and black, blue and white, and black and white. German Shepherd puppies include sable and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from Gena

Gena has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Gena partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 7 weeks old.

“We take great care in matching our puppies with the right families. A telephone interview with prospective buyers if used to learn what the families' expectations and goals are for a new puppy. A Volhard Puppy test is done at 7 weeks of age to assist us with making the correct matches. For the Teddy Roosevelt pups we also do a structure assessment at 8 weeks of age before making placement decisions. If you are looking for a Show/Breed puppy, a certain color, or are set of a certain gender please be sure to let us know. Smaller pups may be kept up to 12 weeks before going to new homes.”

Puppy prices include between $600 - $3,000 final payment, before taxes & fees.

We honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience with Gena and Xanadu’s TRTs. From the first time we talked, you could tell how much she cares about her Teddy Roosevelt Terriers. She was always happy to answer our questions and made the whole process easy and enjoyable. Gibson has been the perfect addition to our family. He's such a happy, loving little guy with the best personality. He’s a natural in scentwork class and is loving agility! If you're thinking about getting a Teddy Roosevelt Terrier, we can't recommend Gena enough. She continues to be a great resource when we have any questions. It’s so much fun to see updates from his litter mates and all the other families too. Thank you! 🥰

Gena was very responsive and helpful. Even though this isnt my first Teddy Roosevelt terrier her insight and advice was very much appreciated. She is a top notch breeder who has spent her life dedicated to this breed. I am so happy to have met her and to get my new family member Ronan from her.
