I'm Matt H., the breeder behind Gold Rush Kennels located in Sacramento, CA. We love this breed and the experience of having litters ! Our mission is to raise pups that are set to become the best companions. While our goal is to share loving puppies with families, we are still a selective program. All our pups come from champion bloodlines.
Q. & A. with Matt
Why did you start breeding?
We only breed dogs that have achieved championship status or are pointed on their way to championship. Breeding allows us to pair great bloodlines together to create exceptional pups with amazing traits.
What makes your program special?
Our family makes our breeding program special. 4 kids and 2 adults give all the pups loving attention and tons of playtime. Our dogs are active and involved in many activities. Kids are Jr. Showmen at our local dog shows.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have hairless coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Legg-Calve-Perthes (OFA), Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

Gold Rush Kennels made everything smooth sailing for us. We flew our pup to bring her home and they were very communicative and clear every step of the process. They prepared her for the plane by crate training her, and updated us on her vet visits and more. It was wonderful working with them, they were very transparent in their tender and loving care for their animals, including all the documents. They are wonderful in their breeding and in selecting families for their animals. Our family is forever grateful!
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
