I'm Esteri H., the breeder behind Graenit Weimaraners located in Sacramento, CA. We consider ourselves breed preservationists. While we compete with our dogs in multiple disciplines, we do not produce "specialists" who will wow the judges in one discipline to the detriment of others. Temperament is our #1 focus. We breed dogs we want to live with: calm, trainable, willing.
Q. & A. with Esteri
Why did you start breeding?
The Weimaraner is a versatile breed, it is the hallmark of what makes a Weim a Weim. I saw how the breed was starting to split along show and field specialist lines. So, I dedicated myself to preserving the versatile nature of the breed. I was fortunate to be mentored and supported by other "old-timers" who shared a similar philosophy. And in my turn, today I mentor and support others.
What makes your program special?
I consider myself a breed preservationist. I'm not looking for a dog who is extreme in anyway. Rather, my dogs are "Jacks of All Trades," able to perform in many ways for many years. That's the product of outstanding temperament and sound conformation.
If you're looking for the latest in breed type or a dog guaranteed to be a top winner. I'm probably not your breeder. Happy to refer you on.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Rubi, mom
Weimaraner
About Rubi
Rubi is co-owned with a family in Nova Scotia Canada. She is in the US temporarily to finish a show Championship (done), complete Hunt Test titles (done), receive more advanced field exposure and training (in process), and compete for a Field Championship (Spring 2023). While here she'll also have one litter (target breeding in December 2022). Once all that is accomplished, she'll return to her family in Nova Scotia. She has completed her Junior Hunter and show Championship. Next stop? Motherhood! and more advanced Field Competition.
Rubi is a strong field contender with a medium to large Gun Dog range. She has extraordinary prey drive and desire, yet lives with our cat in harmony. Multiple Field judges commented on her abilities "This is the nicest Weimaraner I've ever judged." "She's lovely on point." "You don't see prey drive like this in Weimaraners very often." "Tighten her manners up a bit and she'll be hard to beat on the Field Trial circuit."
Unlike many of today's Weims, she's not a soft dog. She can take a correction and still keep working. Rubi isn't one to fold under pressure. Yet, she's a snuggler, a lover, and a sharp word is enough for an immediate correction. She's very trainable and reliable in her training.
We'll be sorry to see her return to Canada.
