I'm Tamara B., the breeder behind Gray Matter Kennels located in Roswell, GA. I breed for health, structure, & temperament. I strive to breed a dog that will be a wonderful performance & companion animal. I also breed to the Weimaraner Club of America standard, so I only breed silver/gray Weimaraners. I do not sell littermates together.
I mainly breed for Show and Hunt but occasionally will sell to a pet only home, but the priority will be focused on homes that want to show in conformation and hunt with their weims.
Q. & A. with Tamara
Why did you start breeding?
I have had Weimaraners for 35 years and decided 12 years ago to begin my breeding program with health, structure, temperament, intelligence, and performance in mind.
What makes your program special?
We focus on developing a healthy dog that is structurally sound. We have used neural stimulation since the beginning and have recently added scent stimulation. We work hard to raise puppies in an environment that sets them up for success in whatever their new owners wish to endeavor with their dogs. When they get one of my pups they also get me for the life of the dog.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have smooth coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are gray. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Gray Matter Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Weimaraners.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
OFA/CHIC DNA Repository, Hyperuricosuria (HUU), Spinal Dysraphism (SD), Hypomyelination, Weimaraner Type
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
