Q. & A. with Chad
Why did you start breeding?
I grew up with my family raising show dogs. My family was involved in showing and obedience training trials from an early age. It is important for us here at Great North Kennels to have well-behaved and well-socialized dogs. Our love for German Shepherds has inspired us to be able to provide you with a dog that will be the best addition to your family!
What makes your program special?
Great North Kennel's German Shepherds have been carefully selected, health tested, and handled with care from birth. We hope you choose us to help you find your next German Sheperd!
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

About Kayla
This is our second litter with Kayla. A phenomenal temperament on this girl. Sired by an IGP 3 stud, she has been proven to produce high drive puppies that excel in protection and Schutzhund. If you are looking for 100% working line GSDs from some of the world's best Schutzhund pedigrees, this litter should be just as great as Kayla’ first litter.
Athos, dad
German Shepherd
About Athos
Gorgeous, DM tested clear. Absolutely no risk of puppies he produces being affected by Degenerative Myelopathy. Athos is Schutzhund, IGP1 titled with excellent hips, testing A/O. A great on/off switch, Athos loves to engage in bite work and protection training. But when he is done training he snuggles with our kids on the couch. An absolute dream dog. Obedient and very, very trainable.

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Great North Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Full Embark Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
