I'm Colette G., the breeder behind Griffin's Mountain Kennel located in Atascadero, CA. We breed German Shepherds as show prospects and companions. Our dogs excel in obedience, as stable service dogs or in conformation. They are raised in our home in a family situation for a balanced, healthy, socialized experience. Temperament is very important to us.
Q. & A. with Colette
Why did you start breeding?
I first got into breeding Rough Collies. I was showing a beautiful male that was such a great example of the breed that I decided to breed him to our female. They produced an excellent litter and I was hooked on bettering the breed. I later switched over to German Shepherds.
What makes your program special?
We only breed our best candidates with hopes to better our breed, we provide all health testing prior to breeding and take extreme measures to ensure we're producing healthy puppies. We stand behind our dogs, and supply owners with all the tools they need for a great experience with their new companion. We like to think we are forever friends with our new owners as well.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are sable. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Griffin's Mountain Kennel reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
