Meet the breeder

I'm Anita T., the breeder behind Happy Acre Bassets located in Greenleaf, ID. Our hounds are raised in our home with lots of love and attention, and on our farm, where they have the pleasure of growing up with chickens, pigs, turkeys, rabbits, fainting goats, and grandchildren! Our mission is to produce quality bassets, with outstanding temperaments, for loving family companions. All of our parents have full genetic testing. All of our puppies are raised with the Puppy Culture protocol. Thank you for sharing our journey!

Q. & A. with Anita

  • Why did you start breeding?

After many years as a vet tech, and rescuing animals, I chose to breed basset hounds for the love of the breed and to do my part to improve their genetics.
  • What makes your program special?

The time and love that we pour into every single one of our puppies result in well-adjusted, happy, and healthy dogs. Breeding Basset Hounds is my passion and I would do anything for our hounds and their babies. From day one, we work with our puppies to give them the best possible start in life.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red and white, lemon and white, and black brown and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Working with Anita from start to puppy pick up was amazing! She was very responsive and even has a Facebook group where you get to see the puppies from birth till it’s time for them to come home. She does so much enrichment with them and it really shows, I feel like our girl has had a big head start from Anita.

Anita is amazing! I really wanted a Basset Hound and my husband going the Good Dog App and that led us to Anita. Wonderfully, she was local to us. Anita reached out to us immediately. She scheduled an interview with us. She didnt just tell us how great Basset's are, but she told us things that nade us really think about if we wanted to have one. You might say, " the uglies" of Basset ownership. It was apparent, she wasn't willing to let just anyone adopt one of her pups. From the moment the pups were born till the day we got to bring our boy home, Anita updated owners and potential owners on the puppies progress. She did updates, lives, posts and " something new". Anita is quick to reply to any message at any time. Anita pours her heart and soul into the pups. She spends quality time training then, loving them and feeding them. She is a wonder woman. Our pup came home with sime good habits and training already in bless, a testament that Anita worked with them. Hsve I nentioned how kind and loving she is?!

We truly could not have asked for a better breeder. From day one, she has gone above and beyond in every possible way. She posts daily in the Facebook group and goes live often, which made the entire experience feel so personal and reassuring. Being able to see updates, milestones, and everyday moments with the puppies helped us feel connected long before bringing our girl home. What stands out most is how genuinely she cares, not just about the puppies, but about the families they’re going to. It’s so clear that each puppy is raised with love, attention, and intention. She takes the time to answer questions, share knowledge, and make sure every puppy and every owner are set up for success. You can tell this isn’t just something she does, it’s something she pours her heart into. We are beyond grateful for the care she gave our puppy in those early weeks and for the continued support even after going home. We would recommend her to anyone without hesitation. Truly an amazing experience from start to finish. 💕

Anita was absolutely AMAZING to work with. The love she has for her dogs and there babies is absolutely beautiful. We loved watching all her lives with all the fun things she does with them or as she called it “something new”. Daisy is doing so great and we know it’s because how much she did with them. She made the process so fun and so easy. HIGHLY recommend Anita and Craig.

Anita is the absolute BEST to work with! She is so responsive and loves her dogs so much! She does so much research about how puppies develop and Maple is the easiest puppy we’ve had BY FAR! Maple easily adjusted to being in our home and is so friendly and sweet! Anita also prepped Maple for her plane flight for a couple of weeks before it was time to take her home, which was so helpful. Also, Anita is always available to answer any questions I have…even about our other basset (that we didn’t get from her). She is an incredible breeder because she loves her dogs with all of her heart and it shows! I also really appreciate that she keeps her dogs even after they’re done breeding…they are all a cherished part of Anita’s family. Anita also runs a Facebook group that allows you to stay connected to the whole Happy Acre family! You can’t ask for a better basset puppy than one from Happy Acre Bassets!
