I'm Seleta N., the breeder behind Haus Des Bergschatten located in Wellington, CO. Haus des Bergschatten is German for House of the Mountain Shadow and in Dutch, bergschatten means "mountain treasures." We have found that Old-Fashioned German Shepherds are indeed treasures, which enrich the lives of everyone around them.
Q. & A. with Seleta
Why did you start breeding?
Over the years the German Shepherd breed standards have encouraged a sharp decline in their temperaments and health. We, along with a handful of other breeders, have made it our mission to bring back the Old Fashioned German Shepherd. We are committed to breeding in the most responsible ways with the health and temperament of our breeding dogs being put first!
What makes your program special?
Our German Shepherds have larger bone structures, straight backs, improved longevity, and family-oriented temperaments as compared to the AKC breed standard. Our puppies are raised in our home where they are exposed to activities and sounds of daily living, cats, chickens, children, and other German Shepherds. We build foundations for training and temperament test to ensure proper placement.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are sable. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
