Meet the breeder

I'm Kristin E., the breeder behind Haus Heckfeuer located in Winchester, KY. I produce pups that will continue to excel in their chosen field, whether that be working, showing, or as an active companion. I strive to produce quality puppies for families that are structurally sound, healthy, intuitive and have wonderful temperaments. My goal is to produce a great representation of the German Shepherd and /or Pomeranian and to continue improving the line with each generation.

Q. & A. with Kristin

  • Why did you start breeding?

I am a preservationist breeder striving to maintain and improve upon the unique qualities that the German Shepherd has to offer. It is my passion to breed these incredible dogs and help ensure the future of the German Shepherd.
  • What makes your program special?

I pride myself on helping all of my clients find the right fit for their needs and lifestyle. I do not breed my dogs unless they are fully healthy and genetically tested. I am dedicated to always having responsible policies when it comes to breeding, socializing, and training my pups. My dogs work hard, play hard, love hard, and are part of the family. I prepare all of my pups to excel in life.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

Haus Heckfeuer reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Temperament Test

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
