I'm Josie J., the breeder behind Haus Kriegerhund located in La Porte, IN. I only produce health-tested, solid and confident German Shepherds who can work, want to work, have great structure and nerve as well. I do not breed dogs with poor digestive systems, hip/elbow dysplasia, DM or skin conditions, as it is not fair to the dog.
Q. & A. with Josie
Why did you start breeding?
I have been mentored and taught by several very successful, reputable advocates of the breed. I decided to start a responsible small breeding program after seeing so many unhealthy and mentally unstable dogs. I would like to help change that for this amazing breed and be sure I am representing the best the breed has to offer.
What makes your program special?
I have been training, titling, and competing with high-quality working line German Shepherds for a few years. I do extensive research into genetics and health testing of all animals. I will only breed the best animals and provide pups that are very confident, strong, and make healthy companions. I am very conscious about who I offer my stud services to and always ensure that each pairing will produce healthy puppies with great health and conformation.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have stock coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable, black, black and tan, and bi-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Haus Kriegerhund reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
