I'm Lili Z., the breeder behind Havenstead Farm located in Edgewood, NM. We are not actively breeding at this time but have 2 males from 2021 litters that are looking for their own homes to guard. They have been raised with poultry (chickens, ducks and guinea hens) as outdoor dogs and are both very handsome specimens, one is a little over a year and quite tall and is neutered, the other is a medium sized boy with soulful eyes, and a very alert watchdog, not neutered yet.
Q. & A. with Lili
Why did you start breeding?
We have always loved dogs and kept several breeds over the years, but with our small poultry farm we found a need for working Anatolian shepherds to protect against coyotes, bear and mountain lion in our mountain home. We find these athletic and beautiful dogs also make wonderful family dogs with a bit of firm training, they are loyal and loving companions as well. We also love the Jack Russell terriers and will always have one (or four) in our home. They are wonderful vermin eliminators around our barnyard, and excellent companions for hiking and watching tv.
What makes your program special?
We do Early Neurological Stimulation exercises with all our puppies between 3 -16 days old to help develop their little brains faster and produce more trainable and healthier puppies. With the anatolians we do leash training and expose them to poultry early on, with the jack russells they are crate trained and litter box trained before they leave our home. All have age appropriate shots and a vet exam as well. We socialize our puppies with other dogs and our extended family to make them well rounded.
