I'm Heather E., the breeder behind Heather's Happy Hounds located in Española, NM. We are lifelong dog enthusiasts, and we’re excited to share our passion and purpose with others through our breeding program. We are dedicated to always providing our buyers and our puppies with a positive experience, which includes remaining committed to responsible practices when it comes to breeding, training, and rehoming our puppies.   • Why did you start breeding?

    As a groomer I see so many pets come into my salon that are designer breeds. It concerns me that the true breeds will no longer be seen as the valuable beings they are, so I made the choice to breed my basset hounds.

  • What makes your program special?

    My basset hounds are my pets. They sleep in my bed and they go to work with me. The puppies are exposed to so many social situations and meet new people and new dogs daily. They sleep through the vacuum and ride in the car and love to get baths! My basset hounds will only have 3 litters per female, and then they will be spayed and my breeding program will end. All of my dogs have been genetically tested and are free from genetic disease.

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Heather

Heather has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.

Price

Puppy prices include a $200 non-refundable deposit and $1,800 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“The price includes vaccinations to date dew claws removed a one year from date of birth health guarantee and with limited or full registration with the akc. The $200 non refundable deposit will hold the puppy of your choice for up to one week unless agreed upon for longer in order for you to make arrangements to pick up puppy if coming from any long distances.”

Contract & health guarantee

Heather may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.     Heather was amazing during the pet process and made sure that our basset hound was a good fit for our lifestyle and household.     Heather was a JOY to work with. Our son wanted a new puppy after one of ours passed away from cancer. He decided he wanted a Basset Hound. After looking through all the pups we decided on our Cutie Biscotti! Heather met us half way to get him and set him up with so many things to take home. It was such a refreshing experience! We love having Biscotti in our life!
