Meet the breeder

I'm Linda H., the breeder behind High Country German Shepherds located in Lake George, CO. We breed healthy pups with straight backs, good conformation and temperaments. Our breeding adults are DNA tested against Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) and we have their hips and elbows checked with the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals(OFA). All our puppies go home with health and hip guarantees.

Q. & A. with Linda

  • Why did you start breeding?

We wanted to put our passion for German Shepherds to good use. Breeding healthy, happy puppies is our way to give back to the breed and the families who love them. We want nothing more than to see each of our dogs and puppies shine.
  • What makes your program special?

We are dedicated to always providing you with a positive experience, which includes remaining committed to responsible practices when it comes to breeding, training, and rehoming our puppies. All of our dogs have been carefully selected for the qualities they bring to our program, and we extensively health-test prior to breeding. We work hard so our puppies can leave our home fully healthy and happy, ready to take on the world with their new family! We want our puppy buyers to call us if they have any questions or concerns after they get their puppy home, and make it a high priority to ensure the most positive outcomes possible with their new puppy.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies include plush, stock, and long coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include sable, black, bi-color, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Linda was so easy to work with. Responsive and transparent about her practices and the GSD breed. She cares about this breed. Elke is a stellar example of her quality lines and is so striking she gets compliments everywhere we go. She’s 5.5 months and just a great pup. She’s our 1st GSD and we’re already thinking about another puppy from Linda when our Elke is older. Elke is smart, trainable, loves her family, best friend to our 8 yr old autistic son. Protective, but discerning, not reactive or aggressive. High drive, but with training, gets along fine with our 3 cats. High energy, needs mental and physical exercise, but we wanted a dog to do things with and she’s an ideal companion for our family. Excitable still as a puppy, but settles into situations well. Alert to her surroundings, but not nervous. We adore her. We met Elke’s dam and sire on site. Linda breeds healthy dog’s dogs. They are not prissy and ready to go any direction you take them. We will not use any other breeder. Thanks, Linda!

We love our puppy from Linda and John. The way they care about their dogs shows that they love him too! I called Linda many times with questions and she enthusiastically answered every one. They are knowledgeable about the breed and happy to share their experience. The puppy we received was more than I had dreamed he would be! If we are ever looking to get another, it will be from them.

Linda and John were incredibly responsive and knowledgeable about the breed. From the start, they demonstrated genuine care for their dogs and their future homes. They answered all my questions thoroughly and provided guidance throughout the adoption process. The puppy I brought home, Gigi, is not only beautiful but also intelligent, loving, and well-adjusted—a true testament to Linda’s and John’s dedication as a breeder. It’s clear that they prioritizes responsible breeding and ensures her puppies are well-cared-for before going to their new families. I couldn’t be happier with my experience and highly recommend High Country German Shepherds to anyone looking for a well-bred and healthy German Shepherd
