I'm Scarlett L., the breeder behind High Lonesome located in Many Farms, AZ. We live off grid in the high desert where we work toward a life that is simple, sustainable, and deeply connected to the land. Every part of our homestead is built by hand, from the gardens to the barns to the spaces where our animals are raised. We believe that a strong and healthy dog begins with a strong and healthy environment, and that is the heart of our program.
Our puppies are raised in the center of our family life. They are handled daily by our children and grow up around cats, dogs, poultry, and livestock. This steady and natural exposure teaches them confidence, respect, and calm behavior. They learn to navigate real experiences, real sounds, and real life. This creates puppies that settle easily into busy homes, quiet homes, or working homes with equal success.
We put great care into selecting parents based on health, temperament, structure, and working ability. We value the traditions of responsible breeding and we believe in transparency and honesty with every family. Our dogs receive clean food, fresh air, physical activity, and consistent hands on attention. They are raised with purpose, not in a rushed or crowded setting.
Every puppy is given personal care from the moment it arrives. We guide them through early socialization, exposure to farm life, and gentle handling that prepares them for a confident future. By the time they go home they understand the world in a practical way and carry a steady presence that families appreciate.
We are proud of the life we live and the animals we raise. Families who want breeders that honor the heritage of the breed, value health and sound minds, and put real effort into raising well rounded puppies will feel at home with us. Our purpose is simple. Raise good dogs, treat families right, and stand behind every puppy with the same integrity that guides our life on the homestead.
Q. & A. with Scarlett
Why did you start breeding?
We did not plan on becoming breeders. It grew out of the way we live. When we moved into an off grid life and built our homestead from the ground up, we learned quickly that not every dog is suited for real work, real weather, and a busy family environment. We needed dogs with sound structure, steady minds, and true health. That pushed us to study, research, and make careful choices about the dogs we brought into our home.
As we learned more, we became committed to choosing dogs with strong backgrounds, proven health testing, and temperaments that could handle the daily rhythm of farm life. We wanted dogs that could think, dogs that could work, and dogs that could settle into the house at night without trouble. Our lifestyle demanded it, and our standards rose with every new lesson.
Over time families began to notice the difference in the dogs we raised. They were healthier, more confident, and better prepared for life because of the environment we live in and the care we put into every step. That is when we understood that breeding was not something we fell into by accident. It was a natural extension of our values. Raise animals with intention, feed them clean food, give them fresh air and real experiences, and stand behind every choice we make.
Breeding became a responsibility we took seriously. It allowed us to preserve the qualities we depend on, while giving families puppies that were raised with the same care and honesty we bring to our entire homestead. Our program grew from our lifestyle. A focus on health, a respect for tradition, and a belief that doing things the right way will always produce the best dogs.
What makes your program special?
What makes us special is the way our entire life shapes the dogs we raise. We live off grid and everything we do is hands on. Our dogs are not raised in a rushed or artificial setting. They grow up in a real environment with fresh air, clean food, children, livestock, and daily structure. This creates dogs with steady nerves, solid temperaments, and genuine confidence.
We are also deeply intentional. We study pedigrees, we choose proven health testing, and we select parents for sound structure and clear minds. We do not cut corners and we do not breed just because we can. Every litter has a purpose.
Our puppies receive a level of exposure and social growth that is hard to replicate in a standard home or kennel. They learn from real life, not staged situations. They understand children, other dogs, cats, and farm animals. They learn problem solving and adaptability simply by living alongside us.
Families notice the difference. Our puppies transition smoothly because they are already used to a full range of sights, smells, sounds, and daily routines. They are raised with respect and personal care, not pressure and shortcuts.
What makes us special is simple. We live the life that builds the dogs we breed. We are committed to honesty, tradition, health, and the kind of hands on work that creates strong and balanced dogs. Our program is not built on convenience. It is built on values, purpose, and daily effort, and the dogs reflect that.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

“Our puppies reflect the level of care, intention, and ethical breeding that is woven into our entire homestead. We choose every pairing with purpose, focusing on health, temperament, and sound structure. All parents are fully health tested and come from lines known for strong minds and steady bodies.
The puppies are raised in the center of our daily life. They grow up with children, cats, dogs, and farm animals, which gives them a natural confidence that cannot be taught in a confined setting. They experience real world sights and sounds and learn to adapt with ease.
We handle each puppy every day and guide them through early development stages that build healthy habits and stable behavior. They receive clean food, fresh air, and constant hands on care. This creates dogs that walk into their new homes with calmness, intelligence, and a solid foundation already in place.
Families choose us because they know our dogs are raised with honesty, tradition, and the kind of daily effort that cannot be rushed. The value of these puppies is found in their upbringing, their health, and the respect we bring to every step of the process. We reserve puppies for families based on their commitment. When a puppy is held, we stop accepting other inquiries for that spot and begin planning our care, scheduling, and evaluations around that reservation. The deposit protects the time, resources, and preparation that go into raising each litter.
It also ensures that every puppy is matched with a family that is fully ready and serious about bringing a dog home. This creates stability for the puppies, for us as breeders, and for the families who are waiting patiently for their turn.
The deposit is applied toward the final purchase price and confirms your place in line. It allows us to focus on raising the puppies with the attention they deserve without last minute cancellations or changes that can disrupt their placement.
It is a simple and fair way to honor our time, our work, and the needs of the puppies we raise.”

I bought a Samoyed puppy for my niece, her absolute dream dog. The entire experience was incredible. Scarlett has been such a joy to work with from start to finish. Our puppy came with everything we could’ve imagined and more.
I loved receiving weekly updates and photos. My niece was completely in love with him long before he even went home. He's so cute, I could have easily kept him myself. Also Scarlett really went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect with our puppy, he was checked before coming home by a veterinarian, vaccinated, and also microchipped. Scarlett also sent an adorable goodie bag that made the homecoming even more special.
This has truly been one of the best decisions ever. I couldn’t be happier, and my niece is over the moon. Highly recommend! 🐾🤍
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
