Breeder of Icelandic Sheepdogs

Meet the breeder

I'm Lorena A., the breeder behind Hjarta Icelandics located in Ukiah, CA. Hjarta ("Heart") Icelandic Sheepdogs is a small, family-based breeder in CA, dedicated to the breed standard, health & temperament. Our puppies are raised in our home using Puppy Culture to ensure confident companions. We provide lifetime support to all our families.

Q. & A. with Lorena

  • Why did you start breeding?

After seeking a more affectionate dog for our family, we fell in love with the Icelandic Sheepdog. We were so captivated by their spirit that we committed to preserving this rare breed. My favorite childhood memory is seeing the joy of families meeting their new puppies, and helping create that moment is why we breed today.
  • What makes your program special?

Our puppies are raised in the heart of our home on our rural farm. We use Puppy Culture to provide a rich foundation of experiences, including safe, early interactions with our other farm animals. This unique socialization helps us raise confident, resilient, and happy puppies ready for their new lives.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red and white, sable and white, cream and white, gold and white, fawn and white, and white tan and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
