Program update on 14 Oct. •
I am really sorry for the delays of updates. I’ve been really really busy lately completing my Valkyrie costume for the Renaissance Festival and Halloween, preparing and competing at Quarter Horse Congress for Heroes on Horses, hatching late ducklings, prepping for our Halloween party and most importantly prepping for puppies!!
Sooo excited for these puppies!! Willow is due this Friday so any day now! We’ve been monitoring her temperature for labor time. I’m thinking she may be a bit early.
We set up her whelping room, but Gramma Chloe (Brutus’s mom) keeps taking it over lol! I think she still wants to have puppies. She’ll just have to enjoy her grand puppies. ❤️
We got Willows X-rays done last week to count puppies. Definitely count 8, maybe 9 or 10. How many pups do you see?

PUPPY HAZARD ALERT!
To everyone getting puppies, whether they’re HGR puppies or puppies from somewhere else, do NOT buy these NUBZ “edible” puppy chews!
NylaBones are great as long as they are not the “edible” ones.
A few years back we got them for our puppies and at even younger than 8 weeks old, they were able to bite chunks off. You can see in the one package that one broke and has a VERY sharp edge. We found small shards that were so sharp it would cut your finger. We took them away immediately but some of the puppies had bloody bowl movements as it scraped their insides. They were all fine but it could have killed our puppies.
DO NOT BUY ANY CHEW TOY LABELED “EDIBLE”. Give them Milkbone type treats instead.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Hosmer's Golden Retrievers reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Golden Retrievers.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Ichthyosis, Golden Retriever Type
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis 5 (NCL5), Golden Retriever Type
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
