I'm Margaret F., the breeder behind Houndful Hearts located in Florence, OR. Our dogs are raised as pets. We choose our breeding couples to improve the health and confirmation of Basset Hounds. We do not breed for a living, we breed to support the MANY Basset Hound rescues we take in all year. We begin our puppies on a human grade cold pressed food supplement at 4-weeks of age. All of our dogs, puppies and rescues begin their life with us on certified pure E/O. We would be honored to introduce you to your next Basset Hound puppy!
Q. & A. with Margaret
Why did you start breeding?
We found that the Basset Hound was our breed of dog from the get-go. They are independent, sassy, and so friendly! Over the years, we have had up to 13 total in our home at once. That is a HOUNDFUL! After talking to several well-known breeders and getting addicted to their amazing passion, we knew we also had to breed European Bassets to improve the health of the breed overall.
What makes your program special?
We breed healthy and happy European Bassets with impeccable bloodlines and a lot of love! Our approach in raising our European Bassets is a holistic one. Our dogs are free of harmful drugs, synthetic chemicals, and toxins – all of which weaken their immune systems and make them susceptible to diseases and allergies. We are extremely dedicated to what we do and what we are trying to achieve as breeders. We work with passion, heart, integrity, and truly want what's best for the Basset Hound line.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Houndful Hearts was so great to work with. Their passion and care for the breed is extraordinary. They kept in constant communication, and were very upfront with all the details. Even had us doing homework to prepare for our new puppy which was extremely useful and helped me better prepare. They have stayed true to what they have said from the beginning that they are there whenever needed and can reach out anytime. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a Basset Hound!!
