Q. & A. with Joan
Why did you start breeding?
I have been showing and breeding purebred Egyptian Arabian horses since 1973 so I am very familiar with excellent breeding practices. I have always loved the Bernese breed and the appropriate time in my life came in 2005 when I was able to begin stepping back from horses and focus on founding a reputable dog breeding program.
What makes your program special?
I have been importing from the finest bloodlines in Europe including, Ukraine, Slovenia, Belarus and most recently from Italy. The parents of the dogs that I import are all international champions and have passed the most rigorous health testing. We feel that the European bloodlines tend to be more vigorous with better health and a longer life expectancy.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are black rust and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
