I'm Kathleen S., the breeder behind KaLor Japanese Chin located in Morongo Valley, CA. KaLor Japanese Chin are loving pets first with some moonlighting as top show dogs. Showing in the 80's then Breeding program in the 90's Japanese Chin became my life's passion. Puppies raised in the home with love are health checked before they go to their new homes giving peace of mind.

Why did you start breeding?
The natural evolution of showing dogs is creating a breeding program. Breeding to the standard ensures the pet owner all the qualities that made them fall in love with the japanese Chin. Health is top priority and ongoing support to the owner for life is KaLor.
What makes your program special?
Long life through preventive care is a KaLor core value. KaLor show dogs have won top awards with the distinction of the top winning class dog during the National and Parent club shows. Having judges thank me for consistently bringing them quality dogs to judge is such an honor. Many pet owners are on their 2nd and 3rd KaLor Japanese Chin that is what breeders strive for.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include white and black, sable and white, red and white, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Kathleen

Kathleen has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Kathleen partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“Through photos and videos buyers are able to assess the puppy. Through conversation we evaluate each puppy to make sure they meet the new owners wishlist. No commitment if when new owner picks up puppy it does not seem to be a good fit. All payment except the $500 is refunded if puppy is not a good fit.”

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit that secures a specific puppy. The remaining $1,500 - $4,500 is due before pickup, plus applicable taxes and fees.

“Included are AKC paperwork completed and sent to owner, Health exam from Veterinarian, Vaccines up to date, 3 wormings, care and feeding instructions and lifetime support. Deposit ensures the puppy you desire. Weekly photos and/or videos so you may watch your puppy grow until you meet them.”

Kathleen may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. About Brit
Brit is a combination of an English daddy and a KaLor mom. Brit has produced a top show dog from her two prior litters. Brit decided early on the show ring was not for her so we did not fight her on it as she would win! She has a very strong personality and runs the household without fuss and noise. Brit takes pride in training her puppies to be happy active babies and to use the pee pads or ask to go outside. She may be the boss but she also enjoys belly rubs during TV time. Brit is GM2 clear through parentage, Excellent in patellas-heart-lungs-soft palate and eyes. Brit did get a nice big English style coat from her daddy. She is a joy to live with.

About Ole
Ole is a wonderful male with a classic Japanese Chin head and expression. He has a lovely long single coat and beautiful large round eyes. He is GM2 clear through his parentage, Normal patellas, excellent eyes, excellent heart and lungs, excellent soft palate. He continues to pass his annual Vet exams. He only needs 3 points to complete his championship I plan to continue in 2027. Lovely temperament kind and loving but can be stubborn at times, like all Japanese Chin. Ole is a third generation KaLor Japanese Chin.

Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Gangliosidosis GM2, Japanese Chin Type
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
