Q. & A. with Kathryn

  • Why did you start breeding?

In our program, we focus on breeding excellence. Our dogs regularly compete in the show ring and are proven champions. Puppies are bred for health, temperament, and to meet conformation standards. Our ultimate goal is to produce athletic and well-structured canines that can excel within various performance venues and have the ability to be the greatest family companions.
  • What makes your program special?

We are professional handlers of Basenjis. We do not breed our dogs unless they are fully healthy and genetically tested. We are dedicated to always having responsible policies when it comes to breeding, socializing, and training our pups and we strive to breed healthy, quality pups that can fit any lifestyle. We love what we do and truly want the very best for our puppies and their forever families.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Great level

Kasendo reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Basenjis.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • PRA, Basenji Type, Fanconi Syndrome

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
