I'm Fran J., the breeder behind Kearanen Talo German Shepherds located in Sun Valley, ID. We are a passionate & dedicated breeding program that produces dogs with excellent working drives, conformation, & temperaments. My experience encompasses nearly 5,500 pet dogs and training venues in Obedience, Sheep Herding, Pet Therapy, Air Scent Search, Rescue Dogs, Detection Dogs, Agility, Tracking, Service Dogs for the disabled, and Schutzhund. I am a passionate and proud breeder of German Shepherds, and I take my work very seriously. I truly love my dogs and what I do.

Why did you start breeding?
I have owned over 18 dogs of my own dogs, 13 of which have been German Shepherds living in my home. I have no kennel dogs. I have owned mixed breeds and rescues. I breed German Shepherds specifically with the goal of producing service dog candidates, and family dogs that can compete or provide service to our communities such as Search and Rescue and Pet Therapy. I strive for exceptional temperament and structure, not necessarily the going fad in the show ring.What makes your program special?
I am not only a breeder, but I have extensive training and behavior background encompassing 35. I know the health and status of every dog I have bred because I train and title my own dogs. I am proud of the temperament and conformation of my puppies. My IAABC and NADOI Certifications and years as an obedience instructor allow me to provide extensive knowledge and guidance for anyone considering bringing one of my German Shepherds into their lives.Where do your breeding dogs live?

Parent health testing

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
