I'm Michael A., the breeder behind Kennel z Aksamit located in Bennington, NE. We use the Avidog Methodology. We breed with HEART. We take great pride in the quality of German Shepherd we breed for loving and caring homes.
Q. & A. with Michael
Why did you start breeding?
When my American bred GSD died of hip dysplasia, I decided to do something about it. America is ruining the breed by not doing proper testing and going for the show lines as opposed to thinking about the history of the breed and keeping the working lines intact.
What makes your program special?
We are 100% committed to the heath of all dogs involved. We want solid drives and even temperaments. Proper socialization and imprinting can produce wonderful pups!
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are sable. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Kennel z Aksamit reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Temperament Test, Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Profile, DNA Repository, OFA/CHIC DNA Repository, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
