I'm Paul and Roxanna C., the breeder behind Kiltedcollies located in Powhatan, VA. Our dogs are genetically tested Border Collies. Our dogs are our pets first and foremost. We expose our puppies to crates, leash walking, waiting, no, come, loud sounds like thunderstorms, fireworks, traffic along with socialization with dogs, children and adults.
Q. & A. with Paul and Roxanna
Why did you start breeding?
My family bred horses when I was a child but I wasn’t interested. I enjoyed training and partnering with dogs much more. Genetics has always fascinated me as well and my goal is to eliminate known diseases in their breed. We look for herding or sport homes and owners familiar with herding breed drive.
What makes your program special?
I believe in perpetuating strong dog-human bonds, I encourage an early bond and interest in humans. I want all my puppies to have ample time looking to humans for learning, excitement, enrichment, nutrition, and affection. I encourage exploration and experimentation within different environments and objects to build a confident puppy.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include blue merle, red merle, and white and red merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Kiltedcollies reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Border Collies.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
