Meet the breeder

I'm Jillian S., the breeder behind Kuulas Kennels located in Cambridge, MN. We offer healthy, devoted, and socialized dogs for working or companion homes. We truly believe these are the best dogs! We work closely with our veterinarians, the AKC, and the UKC to uphold the breed standards at the highest level. We provide routine vet care as well as preventative genetic screening on all potential breeding mates. Our goal is to provide you with an amazing family dog and to advocate for the Lapponian Herder breed.

Q. & A. with Jillian

  • Why did you start breeding?

My love for animals began at an early age. I grew up with families that bred dogs, I have worked in veterinary clinics through college and as a young adult, and I volunteered for the Humane Society and local animal rescues prior to starting my breeding program. Responsible and purposeful breeding is so important for the healthy progression of Lapponian Herders.
  • What makes your program special?

All of our dogs and puppies are raised in a healthy, loving environment as family members. We have been training dogs for 17 years in dog agility, showmanship, and obedience. Our dogs themselves are very unique, as this breed has been around for centuries in Lapland, but only recognized since 2006 in the US. We follow Puppy Culture protocols to train the pups, which has proven to have great outcomes.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include gray, black and tan, and liver. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
