Meet the breeder

I'm Rachel P., the breeder behind LOL Samoyeds located in Denver, CO. I fell in love with Samoyeds many years ago. Competing in conformation and performance events gives me the education needed to be one of the dedicated group entrusted with preserving this wonderful breed. Dogs with bad temperaments or that are physically unsound will never be part of my breeding program. My goals as a breeder are to breed to the standard and produce healthy dogs with wonderful temperaments. I've been in Samoyeds since 1984.

Why did you start breeding?
I believe Samoyeds are a special and unique breed, well worth preserving. 10 years after getting my first dog, I decided I had learned enough and was ready to get a female and hopefully start my breeding program. By then, I had enough contacts to learn that a local breeder was breeding to a male I loved. I asked to be on her list. I agreed to co-own with her so I got pick of the litter. :-)
What makes your program special?
I want to preserve the breed, not change it. My philosophy is to study photos of the original imported dogs. If the dogs fall outside of the range found in those dogs, I think they are too extreme. Today we do not have problems with dogs being more lightly built than those dogs, but there are dogs that are more heavily boned and coated. To me, those dogs lose the athleticism the breed should have.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include white and cream. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
