Meet the breeder

I'm Shawn B., the breeder behind Lone Star Dalmatians located in Katy, TX. Since 1995 we have focused on our dogs being bred for health and temperament. We use DNA testing to confirm their compatibility Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI). Our dogs are a part of our family and as such are socialized with children, other dogs, and our family cat.

Q. & A. with Shawn

  • Why did you start breeding?

When Stoker, my first dalmatian was about 7 he started acting old so I got a female puppy, Ember. They became best buds and Stoker instantly started acting like a puppy again. After a few years I felt like I wanted to share the joy that my fur babies gave me and Lone Star Dalmatians was born. Adoption day is the first day but we are there all the way till they cross the rainbow bridge.
  • What makes your program special?

We breed to meet the AKC standard for dalmatians. Liver or black and white markings 19-23 inches at the shoulder 45-65 lbs. Breed for temperment in a family enviroment with people, kids, cats, other dogs and lots of love. CHIC tested parents and healthy puppies is the standard for us. When you adopt our pups, you join the Lone Star Family facebook page watching the litter live thier best lives!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include white and liver brown and white and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

Lone Star Dalmatians reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Dalmatians.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

Shawn was very responsive. He was able to answer every question I had about Dalmatians. He told me he’s owned this breed for 30 years, and has had 6 litters of puppies. He has a loving home with cats other dog breeds and of course Dalmatians. My overall experience with Shawn was great. I’m loving my new puppy! The pickup was fast and easy. He went through all the paperwork and explained it very well. I couldn’t be much happier. Thank you Shawn for giving me a great puppy and a great experience!
