Q. & A. with Leigh Ann

  • Why did you start breeding?

In 2005 my sister gave me my first basset hound and it has been basset madness ever sense . I very quickly became a basset hound person and 18 years later … I wouldn’t change it for the world.
  • What makes your program special?

An amazing veterinarian and a type A personality ! Those two things have been an asset to my breeding program . I am very thorough with vet care as well as well thought out strategic breedings based on health testing, temperament, color and confirmation…..putting wellness above all else with my dogs and puppies . I am also very careful about contagious disease taking precautions very seriously to prevent any exposure to parvo in the under vaccinated puppies . My puppies are not only healthy but well rounded and confident. They are Loving and they are loved by us every single day from the moment they are born. Constant attention and supervision of puppies coupled with the strategic planned breedings to eliminate risk of genetic diseases makes for a healthy well rounded loving confidant puppy. My support continues through the lives of my puppies and if at any time during there life there is a hardship I will always take back my puppies … regardless of the age or circumstances. They will always be welcome here and I am a phone call away if my families need me .
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and brown, red and white, mahogany and white, black brown and white, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Leigh’s love for Basset Hounds is truly evident. She was communicative, kind, and extremely helpful in explaining best practices for bringing a Basset Hound puppy home. We are so in love with our sweet Fancy! Leigh cared for her with such dedication and even followed up with us after the adoption to ensure Fancy was doing well. We also took comfort in seeing Fancy’s birth home, where many sweet Basset Hounds enjoyed clean, open spaces to play, plenty of toys, and, most importantly, Leigh’s love.

We couldn’t be happier with our new basset hound puppy, Siggy! She has been the perfect addition to our family—sweet, playful, and full of personality. From the very beginning, it was clear how much love and care went into raising her. Working with Leigh Ann was such a wonderful experience. You can tell right away how much she loves her hounds and how dedicated she is to making sure each puppy is happy, healthy, and ready for their forever home. The puppies were so well taken care of, and it really shows in Siggy’s temperament and confidence. We made the drive all the way from Ohio to North Carolina, and it was absolutely worth it. We’re so thankful for Leigh Ann and for the joy Siggy has already brought into our lives. If you’re looking for a basset hound, we can’t recommend her enough!

Leigh has been amazing to work with! This was my second time getting a puppy through a breeder, and I can confidently say Leigh is the kind of responsible, caring breeder I highly recommend. My husband and I lost our first Basset Hound in July — she was our first love, adopted from a shelter at one year old. Losing her was heartbreaking, and our home felt so quiet without that special Basset personality. Since we knew the breed we wanted, I started researching again. I strongly believe that if you’re not adopting through a shelter, the only way to go is through a breeder who is ethical, responsible, and puts their puppies in the best position to be healthy and well-adjusted. Leigh is exactly that. From the very first inquiry, she was prompt, supportive, and transparent. Since we’re in Chicago, I asked about safe and affordable transport options. Leigh connected us with Betsy, a wonderful flight nanny, and the process was seamless and reasonably priced. Pick-up at the airport was easy, and our new puppy (formerly Missy, now Miss Pamela) bonded with me right away. She came home with no anxiety, was nearly potty trained, and had clearly been given the best start possible. Leigh even spent 40 minutes on the phone with me after we got home, walking me through Pamela’s care, routine, and training tips — including the brilliant idea of connecting a crate to a playpen with puppy pads. It’s been a lifesaver with potty training, especially since Bassets can be stubborn. From day one, Pamela has been able to settle herself at bedtime and sleep through the night, and she’s been social, happy, and playful with everyone (including our Corgi). What stands out most is that Leigh’s support doesn’t end once you bring your puppy home. She stays in touch and is always just a phone call away for advice. Having worked with another breeder in the past, I can say from experience that Leigh goes above and beyond. We couldn’t be happier and are so grateful for Pamela — and for Leigh making this experience such a positive one.

When we found Leigh Ann while looking for our new family member, we hit the jackpot!! From the first message I received from her, I knew that she is a great person that loves to share her love of basset hounds with others. She is so knowledgeable about the breed and I love the way she pairs the fur babies with just the right families. We absolutely are in love with our precious Sadie! She went out of her way to make sure that we had everything that we needed for Sadie and she sent us with toys and and items that had the mothers scent on them, to help Sadie settle in her new home. I consider Leigh Ann family now and always will! She is a godsend for the basset hound families! Thank you so much ♥️
