Meet the breeder

I'm Betty W., the breeder behind Madcap Kooikerhondjes located in Charlestown, NH. My goal is to produce healthy, versatile companions with proper breed character, athletic structure, and good type. My life has been devoted to studying, training, exhibiting and occasionally breeding these dogs to make a positive contribution to the breed.

Q. & A. with Betty

  • Why did you start breeding?

When I chose the Irish Water Spaniel as my breed 40 years ago, it was interesting that one animal in a rare breed could have an impact. I have strived to have my dogs make a positive contribution, while keeping their genetic contribution modest to maintain genetic diversity. A dozen years ago, I added Kooikerhondjes to my family. These sweet, vibrant, beautiful little dogs have been a great addition to my life!
  • What makes your program special?

I have several decades of experience as a professional trainer. My knowledge of dog behavior combined with my keen interest in providing pups with enriched environments and accurate puppy testing means that I can effectively match the right puppy for the right owner, and provide them with support after the placement.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.
