Maelstrom Alaskan Malamutes

Elizabeth H.

Breeder of Alaskan Malamutes

Meet the breeder

I'm Elizabeth H., the breeder behind Maelstrom Alaskan Malamutes located in Saguache County, CO. All of Maelstrom’s Alaskan Malamutes are selectively bred to preserve the breed, excel in harness, and make great companions! Our goal is to breed beautiful, conformationally correct Alaskan Malamutes that do the job that the breed was originally developed to do; pull. We strive to produce dogs that have the drive to pull a sled and also the temperament to excel in obedience, therapy work, and demonstrations. We also show our dogs in AKC conformation events, and most of our dogs hold champion titles in addition to their working titles. We are proud members of the Alaskan Malamute Club of America. Why do we show? We want to continue to keep true, working Alaskan Malamutes in front of the judges and prove our dogs against other examples of their breed. In addition to temperament and performance, we also strive to produce dogs that are medically sound by doing health testing as well as submitting DNA to the AKC registry.

Q. & A. with Elizabeth

  • Why did you start breeding?

We have been working with malamutes for over 20 years starting as a kennel assistant for Quinault Alaskan Malamutes and working our way up to breeding our own under Maelstrom
  • What makes your program special?

Maelstrom's goal is to preserve the working integrity of the Alaskan Malamute and put harness-tested dogs in front of judges in the show ring. In the off-season, we also enjoy working on our dogs' companion skills and are always looking for new trials to test our dogs in.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Puppy prices include a $500 deposit and between $2,000 - $3,000 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“The price of our puppies is dependent on their parents and the working, show, and companion potential of the dog. We do not price differently for color, coat texture or size. We require a $500 deposit to hold a puppy with the expectation on the buyer and sellers part that a puppy will available for that buyer from the next litter that fulfills the buyers request. Deposits may be refundable if we will not have any puppies meeting the buyers wishes in the near future.”
