Malachite kennel strives to breed dogs who are free from genetic diseases common to the breed by selecting health-tested parents. We also strive to continue on with the best temperaments. We breed to the AKC standard for the basenji breed.

"Puppy from health tested parents, first round of shots, microchip, AKC registration. Deposits are non-refundable if buyer backs out. If I will not be able to provide you with a puppy from the current litter, you will receive the full deposit back or apply it to a future litter."

Excellent level
Malachite Basenjis reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Basenjis.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Fanconi Syndrome, PRA, Basenji Type
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
