Meet the breeder

I'm Adam K., the breeder behind Malachite Basenjis located in Dallas, TX. Malachite kennel strives to breed dogs who are free from genetic diseases common to the breed by selecting health-tested parents. We also strive to continue on with the best temperaments. We breed to the AKC standard for the basenji breed.

Q. & A. with Adam

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was encouraged by my mentor, who has over 50 years of breeding and showing basenjis, to show my first dog, and I soon after became interested in breeding to preserve and develop this unique breed of dog. I have been able to co-breed a number of litters with my mentor before starting my own breeding program at home.
  • What makes your program special?

Being a small breeding program, my litters are thoughtfully planned out, and puppies are raised in my home with a lot of attention and socialization. We follow the Puppy Culture method of raising and socializing puppies, which I believe gives them the best start at a happy and well-socialized life.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
