Lisa M.

Breeder of Redbone Coonhounds

Meet the breeder

I'm Lisa M., the breeder behind Maple Ridge Kennels located in Springfield, VT. The Redbone breed are a highly intelligent, energetic breed. If you are an active household and have an imagination for new activities, then this is the dog for you. Being a hunting breed, they like to run and can do so for hours. They also make for great house dogs. They love to curl up on the couch with you or in your bed - as long as they are close they are happy.

Q. & A. with Lisa

  • Why did you start breeding?

My husband had always wanted a Redbone. We found out about a litter of Redbones close to us and picked out our first Redbone, Bluemoon, over 15 years ago. I also ended up adopting a female Redbone who came into the vet where I worked to be euthanized, but I begged the owner to surrender her instead. “Red” (as she had already been named) was a 2-year-old, very shy and scared, previously abused and neglected. We worked for years to get Red to come out of her shell. Sadly Blue passed, and Red was very old, and I knew I didn’t want to be hound-less in the coming years, so after hours and hours of research and talking with lots of different breeders, we made the long drive from Vermont to Virginia to Timber Chopper Kennels to get another puppy. That puppy was the beginning of the MRF breeding line.
  • What makes your program special?

All our Redbones are loving, loyal, spoiled, house dogs. We have a small farm with an assortment of animals, and the dogs enjoy being out, helping with chores and exploring and playing with their toddler friend Lucas. They love visitors, treats, and lounging in the sun. We take great care in the selection of new homes for the puppies and will make sure your environment is a good fit for them before selling.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
