Meet the breeder

I'm Lisa N., the breeder behind Maxwell Irish Setters located in La Veta, CO. We’re excited to support families as they experience welcoming a new Irish setter puppy into their lives! Since 2012, we've enjoyed our lovely Irish setters. Our mission: To bring happy, healthy Irish setter puppies into the lives of other families!

Q. & A. with Lisa

  • Why did you start breeding?

Studying pedigrees, showing poodles, then Irish setters, and through testing our sires and dams, the decision was made, when a breeder conferred at an Irish Setter Specialty in 2021, to produce our first Irish setter litter in 2023.
  • What makes your program special?

We choose carefully our dams and sires with attention to testing, loving, training, grooming and socialization choices that support our desire to produce happy, healthy, able Irish setter companions.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are mahogany. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
