Meet the breeder

I'm Sarah B., the breeder behind M&M Shepherd Farms located in Watervliet, MI. Our dogs are bred for temperament, health, and confirmation. We study lineages very closely. We specialize in helping families who need service or therapy prospects as our dogs have ideal temperaments for this work. We are a small kennel and all of our breeding dogs live in our home and are family.

Q. & A. with Sarah

  • Why did you start breeding?

I have always loved animals and nature. Science and biology was always my favorite in school. I love studying genetics and learning everything I can! My passion for animals and learning with such love for this breed is what inspired me to start my program.
  • What makes your program special?

We are much different than a lot of breeders out there. Our dogs are welcome on our furniture, in our bed, on our couch, and are family! Our dogs see the vet yearly, and are very well cared for. They receive Birthday and Christmas presents. We feed top of the line food, and they even come on trips with us during the rare times we can get away! We have 20 acres they get to run and play on.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies include stock and long coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, isabella, black and red, blue, and liver. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Sarah was incredible to work with from the start. I had so so many questions for her and she was so patient and kind with us. She helped us set up transport for our sweet boy almost 20 hours away and she has been great to communicate with the entire time. My husband and I are so in love with our new addition and so far he is the best and sweetest boy!

I honestly cannot say enough good things about Sarah. This was my first time getting a puppy from a breeder, and I was pretty nervous going into the process. Looking back, I could not have asked for a better experience. From the very beginning, Sarah was always available to answer questions, provide updates, and help me through the process. She kept me updated on my puppy regularly, and even after bringing her home, she has continued to be incredibly responsive and helpful whenever I reach out. One of the biggest things for me was temperament. From the start, I made it clear that temperament was my number one priority, and Sarah took that seriously. The puppies are temperament tested, and she worked hard to match me with the puppy that best fit my lifestyle and what I was looking for. Now that she's home, I can confidently say she was the perfect match. It is honestly amazing how well adjusted this puppy is. She settled into our home so quickly. She was comfortable in her crate within the first few nights, sleeps through the night, and as of today (day 7) has not had a single accident. She has already learned several commands and is such a quick learner. What impresses me most is how confident and unbothered she is. We live near train tracks and have had fireworks going off nearby, and neither seems to phase her. She has such a great temperament, settles easily, and has adapted to everything so well. She has also been amazing with my cat. They already play together and relax together, which I never expected to happen so quickly. Sarah was also incredibly helpful when it came to preparing for a new puppy. She provided recommendations for food, treats, supplies, training tools, and pretty much anything else I needed. As a first time GSD owner, having that guidance made a huge difference and helped me feel much more confident. I also appreciated how transparent and thorough she was throughout the process. The parents are health tested, all vaccination records and health information were provided, and she was happy to answer every question I had. When I visited, her home was clean, welcoming, and it was obvious how much care and attention the puppies receive. The biggest thing I can say is that Sarah genuinely cares. It is clear how much time, effort, and love she puts into raising these puppies and supporting the families they go home with. My puppy's smooth transition into our home is a direct reflection of all the work Sarah put in before I ever brought her home. If you are considering getting a puppy from Sarah, I would recommend her without hesitation. She made what felt like a stressful and intimidating process so easy, and I am so grateful for all of her support. I truly could not have asked for a better experience.

My experience with Sarah was amazing! She sent me home with the most beautifully paired companion for me. She was always very responsive and answered any questions I had, and she provided resources to back up her recommendations. She was always very transparent about health testing and after two weeks of having my new puppy I have to say, I will most certainly be continuing my relationship with her and going to her for my next addition should I decide to get one.

Sarah was great throughout the entire process. She regularly had updates and photos of the puppies. She responded to every message I sent very quickly. When picking up my guy, I got to meet both his parents and could really tell how much Sarah cares for all of her shepherds and puppies. This was my first time buying a puppy from a breeder and it was an outstanding experience thanks to Sarah M&M Shepherd Farms.
