I'm Marsha M., the breeder behind Moonshine Irish Water Spaniels located in Arlington, WA. We are experienced, reputable Irish Water Spaniel breeders. We take great pride in our dogs, our puppies, and our program. Our breedings are carefully thought out so we are able to match pedigrees, body types, temperaments, and personalities in order to share only well-bred puppies.
Q. & A. with Marsha
Why did you start breeding?
Before I became interested in Irish Water Spaniels, I worked with an older woman who had been a longtime breeder of Standard Poodles. It seems like every dog she bred had Championships. She had been in dogs for 40 years when I met her, and she helped me to discover the perfect breed for me...the IWS. She asked me: Do you want to be a just another backyard breeder, or a professional breeder, and do it right? I told her I only wanted to do it the right way. And she began training me. We both got our first Irish Water Spaniels and scoured a 4-state area to find enough dogs to enter shows, with the goal of putting championships on all of them.
What makes your program special?
I only breed dogs that have their health clearances and have been evaluated for structural soundness. Both the Sire and the Dam must be breed Champions. Critical to both are that they have sound temperaments. I'm not special. I don't put a championship on my dogs and continue showing them trying to make it to the big times. I get their CH title and then do activities with them that we can both enjoy.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are liver. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.
