I'm John R., the breeder behind Morning Star Malinois located in Portsmouth, VA. We raise, train and compete with our dogs to provide a test of capabilities and an understanding of temperament. We produce working line Belgian Malinois puppies that are placed with buyers who have had experience with working breed dogs.

  • What makes your program special?

    We spend a great deal of energy working our dogs and we spend a great deal of time with each litter and individual puppy making sure that they are conditioned properly to continue to meet expectations of the buyers. We also stay in touch through social media with all of our buyers to make sure that they receive information current with the breed!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include mahogany and fawn. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from John

John has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.

Price

Puppy prices include a $2,000 deposit and $2,000 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Price includes all vaccinations to date, deworming, heath certification from vet, copy of the training protocol we use, AKC registration, Microchip with Reunite, a gift bag of accessories, and lifetime of support. We will refund on deposits made in advance of whelping if we cannot fill the desired gender or if there are not enough pups to deliver. All puppies are same price regardless of gender color or physical appearance.”

John may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Dilated Cardiomyopathy 1 (DCM1)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
