I'm Lindsay B., the breeder behind Nachtwaechter German Shepherds, LLC located in Canterbury, CT. In order to produce the best quality puppies, we breed with a focus on health, temperament, and structure. We are passionate about German Shepherds, and our love for these dogs shines through in every aspect of our breeding program.
Q. & A. with Lindsay
Why did you start breeding?
After a childhood spent passionate about all animals, whether in the barn working, riding and showing; spending time training and loving on my dogs; and rescuing cats and kittens with my grandmother, I discovered the sport of shutzhund (IGP) on the internet while in college. It fascinated me and I began learning all I could about it. I got my first shepherd when I was 25 and the rest is history!
What makes your program special?
Nachtwaechter German Shepherds is a German Shepherd Dog breeding and training facility based on preserving and improving the original European German Shepherd Dog. Nachtwaechter German Shepherds is founded and owned by Lindsay Bencomo; the natural progression of a passion for animals, behavior, and genetics.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have stock coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable, black, black and tan, and bi-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

From our first hello Lindsay was so kind and quick to respond to my questions. Even while she was helping a new mom pup deliver her puppies. We live in Massachusetts 1 1/2 hours away from her Connecticut location she was willing to meet us half way. We actually only had to travel 1/2 hour because she had a change of plans had to go to her vets office. We have had Spookey aka Purple for 1 week & Lindsay has still inquires about how Spookey is doing. She shows so much love and affection for her puppies & it shows in the puppies. Spookey is amazing, smart, confident & loving she brightens up our home with her energy. Thank you Lindsay for bringing this amazing & beautiful puppy into our home. Shirley & Cody

I’m so happy to have found Lindsay. My new puppy Raven has been home about a week now and she is adjusting beautifully. Her temperament is fantastic. She is so smart and is already enjoying training and learning so fast. Lindsay made the transition easy to bring my new family member home and she followed up the next few days to make sure everything was going well.

Lindsay was so responsive and made the whole adoption process so easy. I love that she has a secure site for payment processing. When we met with Lindsay to pick up Yellow Dog (Jayde), she was amazing and asked us to contact her when we get home and update her the following morning. You can tell she cares for her puppies. Thank you, Lindsay, for a smooth process. ~ Diana

Lindsay is an amazing breeder that cares immensely about her pups. We recently took home Zena, this past weekend. I have never met a breeder that was so responsive and kind. Before I forget, also extremely knowledgeable about her German Shepard puppies. I had the pleasure of talking with her over the past week and despite how busy she is, she always made time to answer any questions. When it came time to meet Zena, we had taken a wrong turn and ended up being 20 minutes late. She stayed at the meeting site and sat with us for over an hour. She told us all about what to expect and how to handle any issues that may arise. The other amazing piece is that she offers pet insurance for the first 30 days to cover those unexpected puppy problems. It helped us ease into the decision after spending that time really getting to know the pup. Last night was o it first night with this little cutie. She was a bit scared with the adjustment. It’s a big change, but Lindsay gave us the tools we needed to navigate it well. Zena is so smart, sweet, and snuggly and I am so happy that we were able to adopt her. Lindsay is the type of breeder that will message you the next morning to check in on her pups. That is how you know she truly cares about these dogs. I can’t say enough great things about this experience and if we ever decide to add another pup to the mix, she will be the breeder that we go through. If you are on the fence about getting a German Shepard, message Lindsay and ask your questions. She will answer ever single one of them and you’ll fall in love with that pup before you even meet them.
