I'm Lindsay B., the breeder behind Nachtwaechter German Shepherds, LLC located in Canterbury, CT. In order to produce the best quality puppies, we breed with a focus on health, temperament, and structure. We are passionate about German Shepherds, and our love for these dogs shines through in every aspect of our breeding program.

Why did you start breeding?
After a childhood spent passionate about all animals, whether in the barn working, riding and showing; spending time training and loving on my dogs; and rescuing cats and kittens with my grandmother, I discovered the sport of shutzhund (IGP) on the internet while in college. It fascinated me and I began learning all I could about it. I got my first shepherd when I was 25 and the rest is history!What makes your program special?

Lindsay has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.
After buyers complete the application and screening process, Lindsay partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“The price includes a 24 month hip and elbow guaranty, akc registration, akc reunite microchip, vet exam and health certificate, first vaccine, routine biweekly deworming and lifetime breeder support. Deposits are non-refundable however, at seller’s discretion they can be transferred in the event of an emergency to a future litter up to one year after the date the deposit was received.”

Litter update on 27 Apr •…How adorable is green collar girl from Ikon x Heidi?! This baby has had her first 2 vaccines, LOVES people and loved to explore! This is a repeat litter and I can’t say enough great things about the pups from the first litter, and either can their owners! There’s pups in homes with kids, other dogs, cats, traveling the country! and also doing IGP! I see so many of he characteristics of their grandmother, Amaya; who was and always will be my ♥️ dog (Ikon’s mom). She was a very special girl who produced many loved family pets as well as several national level IGP dogs. Her grandchildren also include a human remains detection dog, service dogs, and IGP dogs. All are fiercely loyal and bond strongly to their family. Ikon’s dad, Nick vom Patiala, was an intense competitor whose name needs no introduction in this region, or even this country. In addition to being a powerhouse on the field, Nick had amazing temperament, health, and longevity. Heidi’s pedigree contains some of the best genetics in the Czech Republic and Germany, I had her mother, Sara, bred to the stud of my choice, Karo z Udoli Upy, prior to shipping to me. Heidi was the only pup in the litter and she has been a special pup ever since! With dogs like Bora Ja Na Ka (her grandmother), Leon von der staatsmacht, Hoky va-Pe and more so close in her pedigree you really can’t go wrong here! As I said about one of her sons from her first litter with Ikon, “these pups check all the boxes!” Green collar and her sister, yellow collar are ready and waiting to show a special person, couple.f or family, that they will be their heart dog of a lifetime ♥️

Litter update on 08 Apr •…These 3 cuties, 1 black/tan male, 1 black/tan female and 1 sable female from Uno x Raksha will be ready to go home next weekend and are seeking their forever families! Repeat litter, Czech working lines, health tested parents, DM clear. Excellent temperaments, prior pups have been great with kids, dogs, and people. One of Raksha’s kids from another litter is also a service dog, and Uno has a full younger sibling in training for detection work at Hartford Healthcare

Program update on 08 Apr •…These four girls from Heidi and Ikon’s repeat litter will be ready to go home this weekend after their vet check on Thursday! 😍 Czech and West German working lines, superb for a sport prospect but with the temperament for active families! Most of the pups from the first litter are in homes with kids and several are also in training for protection work and or competitive obedience. These kiddos can do it all and look good doing it!

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

So, i'll be honest - I have always had rescues. I was pretty reserved and hesitant with getting a pup from a breeder but Lindsay was very receptive and responsive and showed she cared about who the owner was going to be and that gave me some peace of mind. I lost my last k9 service companion of 11ish years (Lab/Akita) to cancer and felt a huge void in me that just kept getting bigger and bigger. I fell immediately in love with Vader "Turkey" after seeing his pics and reserved him. He's still young but learning quick and loves getting into mischief if he's not actively working lol Fetch with me and "tag" with other dogs is his go-to. But he's about to start advanced training for PTSD services. Love him with all my heart.
