Q. & A. with Amanda
Why did you start breeding?
We fell in love with the breed after we purchased our first GS baby.
We took years researching and talking to other breeders before deciding this was the path for us.
What makes your program special?
Our dogs are raised in home with us right under our feet. They are involved in all of our adventures including going to the baseball field to watch our young ones play and to our cabin in the woods. They are bred to be the perfect family dog. Loyal, well tempered, and healthy. It has been an amazing adventure raising these dogs and being able to provide this joy to others is one of the best parts.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Epic
Epic is a male German Shepherd. Carefully selected as a great representative of his breed, Amanda decided to make him part of their program. Amanda has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.
Old Souls' German Shepherds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
