I'm Heidi K., the breeder behind Ole Poor Farm located in Sheldon, VT. Nestled in the hills of Sheldon VT, at the end of a dead-end dirt road, Poor Farm Road...we enjoy raising our Dogs, Llamas, Yaks, Donkeys, Goats and chickens.

Why did you start breeding?
Breeding grew naturally from my lifelong love of animals and my appreciation for specific breeds. It started with working dogs on our farm and evolved as I discovered the joy of raising puppies with great temperaments, solid health, and confident personalities. I truly enjoy being part of each puppy’s early development—watching them grow, learn, and become well‑rounded companions.What makes your program special?
Our puppies are raised underfoot in our home, where they experience everyday life from the very beginning. They are exposed to many different interactions, environments, and gentle handling early on, which helps build confident, social, and well‑adjusted dogs. We believe early experiences shape a puppy for life, and we take great care in giving them the best possible start.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are chestnut and gray. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Heidi partners with them to find the best puppy match.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
