German Shepherd
About Fancy
Fancy is a do it all kind of dog. She has successfully competed in both UKC and AKC venues for conformation, obedience, and rally. She has achieved her fetch Retriever title, as well as herding tested. Shes is a calm, well mannered dog with a stable personality. She is friendly, and has never shown any signs of aggression to other dogs, humans, pets or livestock. She is a brood bitch for a guide dog organization, and has siblings who have completed their obedience championships and ranked nationally. She has a fantastic nose, and truly loves scent based sports. She is a retired service dog, retired as I have means to navigate without her. That, however, does not stop her from still performing her tasks or alerting when necessary.
Excellent health testing
Excellent level
Opalescent German Shepherds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
