I'm Meghan A., the breeder behind Pu’uwai O Pokela Farm located in Kula, HI. Our program focuses on promoting the working potential of the Pyrenean Mastiff while maintaining the qualities which make them phenomenal family dogs. Our current breeding pair, as well as our future prospects, have been selected with the goal of producing pups that have stable temperaments, solid conformation and large size. My family and I work to ensure that pups have confidence and are comfortable both on the farm as well as in the home. We offer pups early and consistent exposure to a variety of smells, sounds, sights, people of various ages and physical appearances and other animals. Puppies are attentively observed and honestly evaluated as they grow and experience new stimulus to determine how best to place them.
Q. & A. with Meghan
Why did you start breeding?
In my various animal management roles I have had the privilege of being a part of breeding programs for a wide variety of species. From Leaf-cutter Ants to Bengal Tigers; Chinchillas to Gargoyle Geckos and most recently Kunekune Pigs and Pyrenean Mastiffs. Since I have extensive experience with Selective Breeding, I wanted to use my knowledge and exposure to help bring a new option in working dogs to the state of Hawaii and to further awareness and utilization of this truly special breed.
With Hawaii being a Rabies Free Area and allowing export worldwide to other Rabies Free Areas (without the timely quarantine restrictions and requirements), I am also excited to be able to offer the PM community in countries like Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the UK and others the opportunity to import young pups.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
