I'm Laurie A., the breeder behind R U Kind Kennel located in Wheeling, WV. My focus is on excellence in every aspect of my breeding program. I produce top-quality Leonberger puppies. I am purposeful in everything that I do regarding my dogs, which includes careful selection of breeding dogs and extensive health testing. My goal is to produce healthy dogs with great temperaments that are exemplary representations of the breed.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    I started breeding to not only preserve my own phenomenal bloodlines but to improve this breed with each litter and do my part to ensure the well-being of these dogs for generations more to come. I’m passionate about what I do and am dedicated to producing healthy, quality dogs.
  • What makes your program special?

    I take responsible breeding very seriously. As a breeder, I am a steward of the future of the breed, so I am careful to always maintain ethical breeding practices. This includes proper health testing, intentional breeding for specific traits, and raising my puppies with proper socialization.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
