Meet the breeder

I'm Mary C., the breeder behind Randall Glen Pyrenees located in Leicester, NC. At Randall Glen Pyrenees we raise real working guardian dogs on a real working farm. Our pups are AKC and/or CKC registered. All of our parent dogs are DNA tested 100% Great Pyrenees, and they're genetically tested as well. We keep our pups until they're 12 weeks old so they get several weeks out on the farm with the big dogs, learning their job. From the earliest age they're with farm animals--chickens, goats, sheep, cows, pigs, and horses. Along with big-dog apprenticeship, your puppy comes to you with two rounds of puppy vaccinations, Bordetella vaccination, parasite control program, vet exam, registration papers, detailed puppy health record, and microchipping.

Q. & A. with Mary

  • Why did you start breeding?

My farm is on a rugged mountainside in the Great Smoky Mountains. It’s next door to 2,000 acres of conservation wilderness. We’re surrounded by every kind of predator—coyotes, bears, foxes, bobcats, mountain lions, even the occasional wolf. There are smaller predators too, like raccoon, possums, and weasels, plus hawks, buzzards, owls, and eagles. Out here, if you have sheep, goats, or chickens, you must have livestock guardians, or they’re dinner! When I came to the farm in 2006 it had been empty for two years. Every bit of small game was wiped out, and coyotes came right to the door, yipping and howling. When I got the first livestock I got Pyrenees at the same time. Right away they started pushing back the predators, and our sheep, goats, chickens and other stock could safely free range. I was blown away by these valiant dogs, so gentle with people and livestock yet so very fierce with predators. In 2008 I started raising our first litters, keeping the pups needed for the farm and placing the rest. Because our pups are raised in a true working environment, they became highly sought after as guardians. Soon we couldn’t keep up with demand. Over the years we’ve increased our pack to the right balance of Pyrenees to keep our farm safe and pups to safeguard other farms.
  • What makes your program special?

We keep our pups until they’re 12 weeks old so they can spend time apprenticed with the big dogs. Even as young pups they help protect the stock from predators—they even help take on bears! They go to their new farms strong and confident. With the extra age and experience they make a smoother transition to their new homes. They’re already socialized with people and livestock, and ready to grow into their guardian job.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

My experience with Mary of Randall Glen Pyrenees was excellent from beginning to end. I was traveling from West Virginia, and Mary guided me on lodging, directions, and how to handle my dog on the way home. Later she helped us with advice on getting our new dog settled into home with 3 sisters. Her farm is right out of a storybook, complete with mountain stream flowing straight through the barnyard. I hope I can visit again someday.

My wife and I were and STILL are ECSTATIC about our REMARKABLE experience with Randall Glen Pyrenees. We were ESPECIALLY impressed with the owner, Mary!!! She and her staff were there for us EVERY step of the way. I am a retired k9 handler/trainer and have NEVER had such a highly POSITIVE encounter with a breeder. This breeder is TOP-NOTCH. Our "Skipper" is happy, healthy, AND living his BEST life!!! We drove to North Carolina from Virginia for 6 hours...it was all WORTH it... Good Dog, we appreciate you as well. Mary, thank God for you!!!

It was a breeze. I would have liked more photos before picking, but also recognize that they all look much the same. Notes on temperament would have been welcome, but it turns out Olaf is an amazing boy. Just wonderful.

Chunk has adapted to his new environment quickly. Loves his new playmate Luna and sleeps indoors at night. He's been a joy as he continues to grow into a big beautiful Pyr.

We couldn’t be more pleased with our Great Pyrenees puppy we adopted from Randall Glen Pyrenees. He is already doing his job protecting the farm. If we ever want to add another, we will definitely go thru them! Thanks again Mary!
