Meet the breeder

I'm Brenda & Chris C., the breeder behind Rays Of Sunshine Bloodhounds located in Pelahatchie, MS. For the past 15 years we have been owned by 7 different Bloodhounds and fell in love with 3 litters of puppies. We were so impressed with our second litter we kept a black/tan female and named her Buttercup. I began training Buttercup at any early age in the AKC S.T.A.R. puppy program. Soon after she graduated, we started AKC Scent Work - where she truly shines! She earned many titles including Buried, Container, Interior, Exterior & level titles for Novice & Advanced. Buttercup got 1st place in many trials and amazed us with her powerful nose. She also enjoys being active earning the Fit Dog Bronze & Silver title along with the ManTrailing title from the American Bloodhound Club. Her latest accomplishment brings her total number of AKC titles to 21 including Canine Good Citizen Advanced & Urban, Trick Dog and Therapy Dog after becoming a certified therapy dog last summer. She loves to make new friends with every therapy visit. We have also been in the conformation show ring where she earned Winners Bitch & Best of Opposite. Buttercup also passed recommended Parent Club health testing, receiving her CHIC at 2 years old. We love our Bloodhounds and continue to work hard expanding our program.

Q. & A. with Brenda & Chris

  • Why did you start breeding?

In August of 2010 my Dad passed away suddenly at the age of 67 from heart problems. It was very unexpected and the deep pain of missing him had only begun when a friend from work mentioned her Dad was a Bloodhound breeder in Louisiana. A few weeks later that friend said her Dad was traveling to Mississippi and we could meet a female pup he had available. Little 10 week old Delilah was an unexpected blessing that changed our world forever. Rays Of Sunshine Bloodhounds had begun!
  • What makes your program special?

We are a small bloodhound breeder. Our bloodhounds have their own temperature controlled sunroom built especially for them to share with us daily. We enjoy spending time with them and strive to improve our program with every litter.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red, liver and tan, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

I had such a wonderful experience with Rays of Sunshine Bloodhounds. Brenda Crain was there for all my questions. Both she and Chris are dedicated to the breed and it shows. I am so in love with my pup. She is an absolute delight. She is very clever and responsive. And she and my older dog are getting along very well. Thank you Rays of Sunshine!! I appreciate you and know that I can count on you for any further questions.
