I'm Elizabeth L., the breeder behind Raywood located in Lake Saint Louis, MO. My dogs are bred for temperament first then health, conformation and function. My dogs live in my home with me and my children and the children of my family members who live nearby. They must live well in a family environment to be considered for my program.
Q. & A. with Elizabeth
Why did you start breeding?
I have had the immense pleasure of showing both Cannon and Summer for both conformation and competing in field champion titles. Cannon is tall and flashy and immediately draws the eye. He is a very quintessential borzoi. Summer builds on Cannons good temperament, good shoulders, and pretty type and improves on his substance and spring of rib without sacrificing drive.
What makes your program special?
I started with a really incredible dog who is kind, driven, and beautiful and I am intending to breed him to a girl who is bursting with sweetness, big, efficient movement and substance for days. The goal in my program is to build on a solid foundation of bombproof temperaments. My greatest hope is to produce a litter of go anywhere, do anything dogs who are a joy to live with.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black, white, and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

About Cannon
Cannon is tall, elegant, and a quintessential borzoi. He runs like his life depends on it and he is gentle with his family with young children at home. When he is not strutting his stuff in the show ring or chasing plastic with all the heart he can muster, he can be found happily snoozing at home on his bed or under the chair of his youngsters to catch any falling goodies

Excellent level
Raywood reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Borzois.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
