Meet the breeder

I'm Karen P., the breeder behind Refiners Fire Kennel located in Blairsville, GA. We are passionate about German Shepherds and look forward to sharing the breed with others who love it just as much as we do! We strive to uphold our reputation as a kind and caring breeder and love connecting people with the perfect companion to their home. Our main priority is ensuring the health and well-being of all our animals from birth until they leave with their forever family and beyond.

Q. & A. with Karen

  • Why did you start breeding?

We did not originally intend to become professional dog breeders. However, after discovering the amazing qualities and capabilities of the German Shepherd, and having a third of our own, we decided to start a program to do our part in the preservation of the breed. We take our program seriously, and have spent countless hours researching and acquiring information about the breeding process so that we can ensure that we are operating in the best, most ethical ways that we can!
  • What makes your program special?

We are very dedicated to what we do and what we are trying to achieve as breeders. We work with passion, heart, and integrity, and we truly want what's best for the German Shepherd line. We believe that purposeful and ethical breeding is so important for the healthy progression of the German Shepherd, and every breeding decision is made accordingly. Our commitment is to provide you with a professional and friendly puppy-buying experience!
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Temperament Test

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
