🐾 REAL-WORLD PUPPY TRAINING AT 14 WEEKS OLD! 🛒 Paladin von Merryman Haus had another BIG first—his first farm store visit where he walked the entire trip on his own four paws! ❤️ A trip to the farm store might look like a simple outing, but for a young puppy, it’s an entire training classroom. Paladin practiced: 🐾 Walking calmly behind the shopping cart 🐾 Heeling through the aisles 🐾 Sit & Down with distractions 🐾 “Leave It” around tempting smells and items 🐾 Calmly walking past other shoppers 🐾 Waiting patiently in the checkout line And that checkout line deserves some extra credit! 😂 All those snacks sitting conveniently at German Shepherd puppy nose level, and Paladin managed to keep his taste-testing services to himself. 👏 At 14 weeks old, we aren’t looking for perfection. We’re building a foundation. These carefully planned outings help puppies learn that new places, people, sounds, smells, surfaces, and distractions are simply part of everyday life. We’re working on confidence, handler engagement, impulse control, neutrality, and the ability to think and respond even when the environment gets exciting. Socialization isn’t about meeting everyone—it’s about teaching a puppy how to confidently and appropriately exist in the world around them. ❤️ One little adventure at a time, Paladin is learning some pretty BIG life skills. 🐾 #SaltyRaccoonRanch #GermanShepherd #GermanShepherdPuppy #GSDPuppy #PuppyTraining #DogTraining #PuppySocialization #ServiceDogTraining #WorkingDog #DogTrainingTips

🤠🐾 The Quick Draw “Q” Litter Update! 🐾🤠 We are excited to announce that Yeti Von Shield and Indiana’s Iris Von Merryman Haus have been successfully bred! ❤️ If all goes as planned, we are expecting The Quick Draw “Q” Litter to arrive around October 4, 2026. Puppies would then be expected to go home at approximately 9 weeks of age, with an estimated go-home timeframe during the second week of December. This repeat pairing has already proven itself to be exceptional. Yeti and Iris are the proud parents of our Marvelous “M” and Outlaw “O” litters, producing puppies that are thriving as Service Dogs in Training, AKC competitors, and exceptional family companions. Their offspring continue to demonstrate the stable temperaments, intelligence, confidence, trainability, and versatility that are the cornerstone of our breeding program. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing updates every step of the way, including: 🐾 Pregnancy confirmation 🐾 Ultrasound updates 🐾 Whelping Day 🐾 Weekly puppy photos and videos 🐾 Temperament testing 🐾 Puppy Selection Day 🐾 Graduation & Go-Home Day We are currently accepting applications for the Quick Draw “Q” Litter. If you’ve been considering adding a Salty Raccoon Ranch German Shepherd to your family, now is the time to begin the application process. With no additional breedings planned until 2028, this will be your last opportunity for quite some time. As many of you know, the Quick Draw “Q” Litter will be our final planned litter before an extended breeding pause. We will not be planning another breeding until 2028. During this time, I’ll be focusing on my family, continuing to train and title our own dogs, advancing our personal service dogs, attending dog shows and competitions with our own dogs, and dedicating more time to my career serving our nation’s veterans. This pause will also give us the opportunity to simply enjoy the incredible dogs we’ve been blessed to produce over the years. Thank you to everyone who has supported our family, our dogs, and our breeding program. Whether you’ve welcomed one of our puppies into your home or have simply followed along on this journey, your encouragement means the world to us. We are incredibly excited to share every milestone of the Quick Draw “Q” Litter with you and, Lord willing, welcome these puppies into the world this October. ❤️ Samme & the Salty Raccoon Ranch Family #QuickDrawQLitter #SaltyRaccoonRanch #GermanShepherd #WorkingLineGermanShepherd #LongCoatGermanShepherd #GermanShepherdPuppies #ServiceDogProspect #AKCDogs #DogSports #EthicalBreeder #PreservationBreeder #IndianaBreeder #FamilyCompanion

🐾 Building Confidence One Adventure at a Time 🐾 At just 14 weeks old, Paladin Von Merryman Haus is already learning one of the most important lessons a puppy can learn—not just obedience, but how to remain calm, confident, and engaged with his handler in the real world. This week, we visited a busy community park where Paladin experienced: 🐕 Dogs walking by 🛴 Scooters zipping past 👶 Meeting a baby for the very first time 🏃 Children running and playing 🚶 People using walkers 🗑️ Trash bags, rolling trash cans, and other everyday sights and sounds Rather than rushing him into the middle of the excitement, we started at a comfortable distance, allowing him to observe the world while playing engagement games that reward calm, thoughtful decisions. As his confidence grew, we gradually worked closer until he was relaxing just steps away from the busy pool entrance. One of my favorite moments was watching Paladin calmly and politely meet a baby for the first time. That success wasn’t an accident—it was the result of weeks of intentional socialization and age-appropriate training that has built a strong foundation for life. At Salty Raccoon Ranch Kennels & Training, our puppies are raised with purpose. Whether they are destined to become service dogs, sport dogs, active family companions, or lifelong best friends, we believe every puppy deserves the opportunity to develop confidence, resilience, and excellent manners through positive, structured experiences. If you’re looking for a German Shepherd puppy that has been thoughtfully raised from the very beginning—or you’re interested in professional puppy training to help your own dog reach their full potential—we’d love to talk with you. 📩 Feel free to reach out with questions about our upcoming puppies, training programs, or how we can help you build the dog you’ve always dreamed of. 🛒🐾 Paladin Takes Over Shopping Duty! Apparently, every ranch needs a Shopping Supervisor, and Paladin has officially accepted the job! 🤠 At just 12 weeks old, he hopped into the shopping cart like he had done it his whole life while we picked up supplies for all the ranch critters. He happily watched the world go by, greeted new people with confidence, and took in all the sights, sounds, and smells of the busy farm store. These outings are so much more than cute photo opportunities—they’re an important part of raising a confident, well-rounded puppy. Every positive experience helps teach puppies that new places, new people, and new environments are safe and fun. Whether a puppy is destined to become a service dog or a beloved family companion, early socialization helps lay the foundation for a calm, confident adult dog. I think Paladin gave this shopping trip two paws up…although I’m pretty sure he was hoping we’d bring home more treats than ranch supplies! 😂🐾 💙 Sharing God’s Creation and Unconditional Love Through a Dog’s Loyal Heart. #SaltyRaccoonRanch #GermanShepherd #GermanShepherdPuppy #ServiceDogInTraining #PuppyTraining #PuppySocialization #FarmLife #WorkingDog #DogTraining #RanchLife

🐾🎉 GO HOME DAY — POWERHOUSE “P” PUPS 🎉🐾 Today is one of the happiest and hardest days for us here at Salty Raccoon Ranch. After 9 weeks of love, training, socialization, and adventures, the Powerhouse “P” pups are heading home to their forever families. It feels like just yesterday they were tiny newborn puppies snuggled up beside Gemma, and now they are confident, capable young puppies ready to begin their next chapter. Over the past 9 weeks, these puppies have participated in Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), Early Scent Introduction (ESI), Puppy Culture and Avidog protocols, puppy recalls, clicker training, crate training, potty training, car rides, grooming, vet visits, confidence-building exercises, problem-solving activities, sound desensitization, exposure to livestock and family dogs, and countless positive interactions with people. They have explored new environments, learned to follow their humans, navigate obstacles, recover from surprises, and build the confidence needed to thrive in the real world. Every experience was carefully planned with the goal of producing stable, resilient, human-focused companions and service dog prospects. To our puppy families—thank you for trusting us with such an important part of your lives. Your puppy is leaving the only home they have ever known, so remember to be patient, compassionate, and understanding as they settle into their new routine. The relationship you build over the coming weeks will lay the foundation for a lifetime together. To the Powerhouse “P” pups, thank you for the tail wags, puppy kisses, muddy paws, and countless memories. We prayed for each of you before you were born, cherished every day we had with you, and cannot wait to watch you grow into everything you were meant to be. Once a Salty Raccoon Ranch puppy, always part of the Salty Raccoon Ranch family. ❤️ Now it’s time for your next adventure. “Sharing God’s Creation and Unconditional Love Through a Dog’s Loyal Heart.” #PowerhousePPups #SaltyRaccoonRanch #GermanShepherdBreeder #ServiceDogProspect #PuppyCulture #Avidog #GermanShepherdPuppy #PuppyGoHomeDay

🐾 Powerhouse P Pups Vet Visit Update 🩺 Yesterday the Powerhouse P puppies had their wellness exams, and they gave us another great glimpse into the temperaments we have been working so hard to develop. One by one, the veterinary technician opened my vehicle door, removed each puppy from their crate, and carried them into the clinic without any assistance from me. The puppies were separated from their littermates, handled by unfamiliar people, weighed, had their vitals taken, and then were placed on the floor of the exam room to explore. As a breeder, this is a valuable part of my evaluation process because it allows me to see how each puppy responds when faced with a completely new situation. They are away from their familiar environment, away from me, and being handled by strangers in a busy veterinary setting. I look for confidence, resilience, curiosity, recovery from mild stress, and willingness to engage with new people. The results were exactly what we hope to see. Every puppy willingly went with the veterinary staff, accepted being carried into the clinic, calmly sat for their weight and vital checks, and then enthusiastically explored the exam room with wagging tails and curiosity. These responses don’t happen by accident. They are the result of weeks of intentional puppy raising. From Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI), to Puppy Culture and Avidog protocols, daily handling, novel surfaces, sound exposure, problem-solving exercises, recalls, confidence-building adventures, meeting new people, and learning that new experiences are safe and rewarding. Our goal is not to create puppies that have never been challenged, but puppies that have learned how to confidently navigate challenges and recover quickly from them. Watching these puppies walk into a completely unfamiliar environment and greet the experience with confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of breeding and raising future companions, performance dogs, and service dog prospects. We are incredibly proud of the Powerhouse P pups! ❤️🐾 #PowerhousePPups #PuppyCulture #Avidog #GermanShepherdPuppies #ConfidentPuppies #ServiceDogProspect #PuppyDevelopment #SaltyRaccoonRanch #FutureServiceDogs #WellSocializedPuppies

Puppy Playtime

Yeti and Gemma's litter

Samantha M.
Our Powerhouse “P” Puppies are approaching 5 weeks old and recently experienced one of their biggest developmental milestones yet — their very first outdoor adventure. As part of our advanced puppy raising curriculum at Salty Raccoon Ranch LLC, each new experience is intentionally designed to build confidence, resilience, environmental stability, and engagement with people from an early age. For this outing, the puppies learned to navigate a small step, move confidently through a doorway, and transition into an entirely new environment outdoors. While these may seem like simple tasks, experiences like these are incredibly important for developing problem-solving skills, body awareness, recovery from novelty, and future confidence in public settings. Outside, the puppies explored natural surfaces including grass, uneven terrain, and large logs while safely investigating new scents, textures, sounds, and environmental stimuli. We also began introducing foundational puppy recall exercises and engagement work, helping the puppies naturally learn to follow humans and build positive handler focus. Our puppies are raised using a combination of Puppy Culture, Avidog, and our own advanced service-dog-oriented enrichment program. This includes: • Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) • Early Scent Introduction (ESI) • Structured confidence-building exercises • Novel surface and obstacle exposure • Problem-solving activities • Early socialization and environmental enrichment • Recall and engagement foundations • Sound and recovery conditioning • Cooperative care and handling exercises These carefully planned experiences help lay the groundwork for future service dogs, therapy dogs, sport competitors, working dogs, and stable family companions. The Powerhouse “P” puppies continue to impress us daily with their curiosity, resilience, and desire to engage with people. We are incredibly proud of this special litter and excited to continue watching their personalities blossom. 🐾

I can’t say enough about Samme. We just brought home our girl “Medusa”. We had some moments wondering if the board & train program would be worth the extra time and money and let me say 100% YES IT IS! Medusa is fearless, confident, and social at 15 weeks old and I truly don’t think our outcome wouldn’t be as amazing if Samme didn’t help. She really knows what she’s doing! There is so much love and energy that goes into each of her litters and I know this is more than a “job” for her. Samme takes her time to socialize all of her puppies from the beginning up until they go home, she is also extremely informative and stays in touch so you always have her to come to for any help. During Medusa’s training we got to come out and bond with her as well as always staying in the loop with pics & videos during her sessions several days a week. I’ve been on a mission for the perfect GSD since my childhood dog passed almost a year ago, and went in trusting Samme during a vulnerable time and couldn’t be happier with my decision to bring home a SRR puppy. Medusa’ first 4 days home was the least stressful process ever and I truly believe it’s because of all the hard work and dedication Samme puts into each puppy and to better the GSD standard by her selective breeding. I’m so proud of the dog sweet Medusa is becoming and can’t wait for all she can accomplish in the dog sport world!! Thank you Samme for trusting Lukas and I with this perfect girl, we will be back in the future for sure!!♥️

I searched a few years for my service dog prospect. I knew I wanted a German Shepherd because I grew up with them. I interviewed several breeders and had almost given up because the fear of making the wrong choice and adopting a dog from a backyard breeder made me nervous. I came across a Facebook post and something that Samme said caught my attention. She was knowledgeable about servicedogs and she was a breeder of German Shepherds. I began messaging her and she was open to questions she helped me understand the process and what was important and her values as a dog breeder. You can tell she cares about her dogs and puppies. The best interest of the puppies and their future is a top priority and it shows. She is supportive of her customers every step of the way. I was blessed to come across a post that lead me to my best friend (green collar puppy from Timber 2022) and Service Dog in Training. I will continue to go to Samme at Salty Raccoon Rance for future prospects as she breeds well balanced and healthy puppies. You cannot go wrong with this breeder as she is Amazing!

Although this is my first full bred puppy, i have had and trained many dogs who ended up in rescue, and while i love helping rescue, i needed a well balanced puppy for service dog work, scent work and maybe even confirmation. I reached out to SRR and i am so happy I did! These puppies are raised with care and are socialozed and started on scent imprinting. As a professional trainer i can tell you that all the work that is put into these puppies make them a perfect choice for whatever you need in A German Shepherd Sog. My boy is amazing and so smart. There is no problem he cant figure out because they are given puzzles and introduced to obstacles immediately. My puppy only had 2 accidents in the house and they were both my fault. He is fearless and ready for any adventure. I will turn to SRR for all my dogs from now on!!!
