I'm Heather S., the breeder behind Schmahl Family Farms located in Cleveland, MN. Our dogs are bred for health, temperament, and ability. We strive to produce beautiful and versatile beloved companions. We decided to start a responsible, in-home breeding program in order to produce quality working dogs that also fit into a home setting. These dogs can do it all, and we make sure to foster that versatility in our puppies beginning from the moment they're born.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We began breeding on a very small scale with our Labs. We wanted to continue the line as we love our Labs temperament and build. When we lost our beloved Newfoundland we quickly realized how much he was needed to keep the Coyotes away! We began the search for a new male and came across our BEAUTIFUL, amazing tempered pair of LGDs being rehomed due to circumstances beyond the owners (or the pups) control. With our children homeschooling and my son's intense interest in animals, we were hooked! We have produced two litters from this pair and have heard nothing but excellent experiences from the new owners! We are so excited to bring great dogs to homes that need them for protection and companionship.

  • What makes your program special?

    This small family run program gives the pups great one on one socialization and attention. We work with the pups daily to ensure a well rounded upbringing from day one! Ask about our military/first responder discount!

Getting a puppy from Heather

Heather has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Heather partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

We will take into consideration Family preferences in making a joint decision but ultimately the final decision will based on best fit. We will guarantee gender preferences as long as that gender remains available on our page! ”

Price

Puppy prices include a $300 deposit and between $700 - $1,200 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“This price includes Health Guarantee, AKC registration (breeding rights to be given upon proof of OFA testing of good+) socialization and introduction to many different animals and humans/children. Please ask about our military/first responder discount! Non-refundable unless another individual is waiting for a pup/I am able to find another home before they are ready. In other words, if your cancellation doesn't result in extra expense for me, there is no reason for me to keep it!”

    We just got our puppy Aslan and he is turning out to be an exceptionally smart puppy. He has a good pedigree and comes from a strong line of working dogs. It was very important to me to find a dog that was well bred, with good genetics. Heather was great to work with. She was very communicative, which is incredibly important with a breeder. She explained her breeding program and went over everything with me, including her contract so that all my questions were answered up front and I felt very comfortable with even just the deposit. Overall, it was a seamless process and wonderful working with her. I can’t wait to see how Aslan turns out!

    We just love our new Anatolian puppy, Chester. He has gorgeous markings. Chester has a wonderful temperament and is very intelligent. He is kind and sweet to us and cautious to all of our farm animals. Chester loves people, he wants to please by listening and hanging close by. During the night, we did not have to keep him in a crate. He sleeps by our bedside and then will get up once during the night with us to go to the bathroom. Then he will go back to sleep until morning. I’ve never experienced this with training a puppy before. Heather was wonderful to work with from the beginning when we met her online until we picked him up. She helped with preparing our home and equipment for him by answering questions online. Heather worked with us in picking our pup. When we came to pick him up, she gave us a choice between two dogs to choose from that had identical markings. We’ve had unpleasant experiences in the past when the breeder chose the puppy for us. Heather kept us updated with pictures and videos of our puppy. Heather socialized the pups with her farm animals and children. The other day, we brought him to a feed store and Chester played gently with several children who wanted to play with him. We feel very blessed by our newest member of the family, Chester!
