Cheyenne W.

Breeder of German Shepherds

Meet the breeder

I'm Cheyenne W., the breeder behind SeaJay Shepherds located in Columbus, OH. Our shepherds are bred with the breed standard in mind. We aim to breed medium/high drive German Shepherds with stable temperaments for working and family homes without sacrificing the health of the breed. Our dogs are OFA hip/elbow cleared, DNA tested for Degenerative Myelopathy and MDR genes, temperament tested, and titled.

Q. & A. with Cheyenne

  • Why did you start breeding?

I grew up with German Shepherds and my father bred them with the health of the breed standard in mind. I grew up going to vet appointment for hip clearances on our dogs. He taught me the basis of ethical breeding and the German Shepherds he grew up with in Germany.
  • What makes your program special?

I breed to produce quality German Shepherds. This means a German Shepherd that can perform its job tasks with a medium/high drive, with sound mental and physical status. I pour everything I can into health testing and titling my breeding prospects while also providing stimulation to puppies to create sound dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have stock coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are sable. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

SeaJay Shepherds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Brucellosis, Temperament Test

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
